In another great article for the Western Standard, Mark Steyn writes about Canada's increasingly Continental attitude towards to role of the military. Towards the end, making a point about national identity, he quotes Richard Fernandez who recognizes,
"...the political divisions in the modern world between those whose concept of a nation is its people and traditions and those who conceive of it as an ecosystem delineated by a United Nations-approved boundary."
An interesting premise, a great read.
How do "carbon offsets" work? Well, let's say you're a former vice president and you want to reduce your "carbon footprint," but the gorgeous go-go Gore gals are using the hair dryer every night. So you go to a carbon-credits firm and pay some money and they'll find a way of getting somebody on the other side of the planet to reduce his emissions and the net result will be "carbon neutral."
Steyn's just brilliant, isn't he? It occurred to me after reading this piece that "carbon neutral" is the new "low carb".
His basic thesis as to why Iran is fostering violence in Iraq:
"Because Iraq is not about Iraq. It’s about America."
