So for the past 5 months I've been working at a machine shop. I've been doing their driving and packing and deliveries, etc etc. Occasionally they would put me on the saw cutting up material or have me drill holes or something, but nothing big.
But as time has gone on I've been doing more and more shop work to help out when pickups have been slow.
A couple weeks ago, I started coming in much earlier and going straight into the shop to do fabrication stuff and I've been doing that ever since.
The most working with my hands that I've ever done before this has been building a fence. But I gotta say, It's alot of fun. I like making a product and being proud of it. I've welded, cut steel with a plasma gun (COOLEST THING EVER), cut with a band saw, bent and rolled metal, drill holes, tapped holes, deburred holes, ground points, grinding aluminum to a finish, and learned to drive a forklift. I still need to learn how to weld aluminum, which is apparently more difficult, but aside from that, I've essentially made four or five of these:
I'm not sure if this is what I want to do forever, but I'm enjoying it as I'm doing it. And I'm still pursuing my network stuff, so if an opportunity turns up that I think I would enjoy I can take it. But until then - I'm happy doing it, it's physically challenging and the time blows by fast while working. Can't say that about Network Babysitting.
