Reading the musings/writings of my friend Dave makes me want to write...and die. Usually the latter after attempting the former.
If mastery of vocabulary were a moral obligation, Mr. Eagle would be a saint.
Yes.
I have short timers disease.
My last day is a week from tomorrow and I'm struggling with staying focused.
Ah well.
And a good time was had by all.
And all means me and my brother.
Sarah dropped my brother and me off at the Washington Brewer's Festival tonight. It was a lot of fun. All the great local Washington breweries were out in force sampling their flagship beverages and several limited edition brews made especially for the festival.
So here's a big shoutout to the top 3.
1. Diamond Knot Brewery
They had only one bear on tap and that was a special Ale made just for the festival. The name escapes me but it was 40 IBU's (International Bitterness Units) and 6% ABV. So great bitter bite up front, not quite as smack-you-in-the-face as an IPA, but a solid finish that was surprisingly refreshing for such a powerful ale. One of my favorite beers of all time.
2. Pike Brewing Company
Pike had 4 on tap but I had already tasted the other 3 at their local brewery at Pike Place in Downtown Seattle. The fourth that I hadn't tasted was the Monk's Uncle. Very potent, a punch of hops, not in the IPA neighborhood but strong enough to last out the the maltiness. Suprisingly clear tasting for how dark amber it was.
3. Laughing Buddha Brewing Co.
You can always tell a winner by the size of the line in front of the booth. And let me tell you there was a huge line in front of this one start to finish. They specialize in asian infusions which really push the envelope of what you thought was possible with a beer. We tried the Pandan Brown Ale. This was such a trip. Sweet up front with a solid bitterness that followed, and some tiny lingering freshness that I could only describe as ginger-ey.
All in all, the first night of the weekend long Washington Brewer's Festival was a big hit.
The best part, to be honest, was hanging out with my brother for an extended period of time. Sometimes we have the tendency to get into "serious" discussions about philosophy, politics or religion. These usually lead to arguments and frustration for me. But there's something so great about taking some time to enjoy a common interest and just be with your brother. Good times.
And I do mean that in the very literal sense. We have "moved in" to our new apartment.
That is to say, all of our stuff is in. We are in. But by no means is it yet a home.
We're workin on it though! There's boxes everywhere and lots of blank walls, but we'll get there.
Pic's forthcoming.
Speaking of forthcoming pictures, France photo's will be up on flickr in a day or two. I was going to post them today since I got all of my dad's photos as well. But when I put them all in the same file and organized them by date taken - something isn't right. I have a feeling the clock on my dads camera, the clock on my moms camera and the clock on my camera were all off. Yay.
So handsorting, then posting? Or visa-versa. Flickr-heads, speak out!
Thanks to HotAir.com for making it the quote of the day yesterday. Here's your trackback.
“What would have happened if Obama’s bill had passed? There is no way to know for sure, but it seems likely that, facing less resistance, Al Qaeda in Iraq would have continued to gain strength, the fragile Iraqi Security Forces would have collapsed, as would the fragile Iraqi government, militias would have flourished–and the United States would have departed under fire, accepting a humiliating defeat in the war against al Qaeda that would have reverberated globally.
For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.”
I am on my way to France tomorrow!
A little vacation time that I am very much looking forward too.
Time to get away from the grind of work and enjoy the French countryside on a walking culinary tour of Provence.
Le class, comment dit'en Francais, "Sweet-ass sweet!"
I guess we'll have to find out.
Sub-Post:
I'm giving up on Facebook.
It's fun for finding people but I find it incredibly tedious to navigate and not at all useful for expression. So stop sending me poker requests and for heavens sake, stop trying to buy me! Whatever that even means!
If you need me, facebookers, I'll be here.
1. Two men standing glaring face to face with tense drawn expressions.
One may says to the other,
"You have no idea what I'm capable of."
2. A woman is leaning close over the body of comatose figure in a hospital bed.
The woman says to the patient,
"I don't know if you can hear me..."
Please, Hollywood. Cut. It. Out.
