I think my Vox is lonely. I haven not updated for a while and most of my contacts have not updated in a week or two. Plurk has stolen everyone (except Randi and Rachel) from Vox.
Oh well...
Out of anyone in your address book, with whom would you most like to have lunch today?
Serena with none of our kiddos. That girl makes me laugh like noone else. I always leave our time together feeling understood and happy and appreciated. She is one of those people that make hanging out feel effortless which for me is a big deal.

What parenting tip do you swear by?
ALWAYS, always follow your instinct. You will receive all kinds of advice and read articles, books, blogs, news stories with contrasting opinions. Never do anything that makes your heart ache. You know your children better than anyone else in the world and should always trust your gut. God gives us that mothering instinct for a reason and we should never ignore it. If your gut is conflicted, then you should go with the most current research (if there is some on the topic).
What's your favorite time of day and why?
9pm until I pass out.... blissfully quiet, kids asleep. Ice cream makes this as close to heaven on earth as possible. I've always been a night owl. I feel energized once the son goes down. Yesterday I cleaned our bedroom and vacuumed at 10pm, no kidding! I wish that I could stay up as late as I used to but as sleep deprived as I am... well that's not a good idea!
Yesterday was the summer solstice for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. How did you celebrate the arrival of summer and the longest day of the year?
We had a Chinese food potluck at work. At home, Jon and I ate the leftovers from said potluck for dinner and watched the first two episodes of The Mole online. I think that show has an interesting concept, but it is a little ridiculous. We rolled our eyes at most the show, we watched the second episode to give it a fair chance, but I don't think I will be watching any more of it. All the times when they contestants do the little interview things, it just seems to scripted. No me gusta The Mole.
We did not really do a summer solstice celebration, although I might go down to the Fremont Fair tomorrow to check it out. Fremont is the hippiest city is Seattle. I like it, Jon does not, which is why I might go by myself while he is at work. I do have more to do around the house though, so I also might just stay home and clean. fun.
Today is the first day I have ever heard that name. I work right next to Pike Place Market and see all the Street Musicians on a regular basis. I have seen this man and heard his voice many times and even dropped coins in his guitar case since I have worked in that area, yet I never knew his name or anything about him.
The above link takes you to the story of his death as posted in the Seattle Times. He died a week ago, but I just heard about it today. All I knew about Jim Hinde before today was that he sang in Downtown Seattle. I have always enjoyed listening to the various musicians that line Pike Place, they really do brighten your day and are probably photographed just as much as the fish throwers, the market sign and Rachel, the market pig. Even though I am entertained almost daily by these people I have never really given much thought to them other than they are great performers. Until today.
As the article says, Jim was a very well known performer. I will miss him, and I know I am not the only one. As for the rest of the performers we still have: I will no longer take them for granted. I will take a moment to pause and enjoy when I pass them from now on. I will give them my change and dollars when I have it. I will purchase the CDs they have for sale next to the guitar cases. I will even stop and chat and applaud when I can. I know these are small acts at best, but I don't think these people get the recognition they deserve. They are the people who make the Market what it is, they are Pike Place Market, they are Seattle.
Jim, may you rest in peace and may God be a comfort to your family and friends during this time. Thank you for being just one of the things that made me fall in love with Seattle.
